Official Veterinarian NVWA
€3.500,- / €5.500,- p/m
Are you a qualified veterinarian looking for a meaningful career in the Netherlands? Join our program to become an Official Veterinarian at the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA). The NVWA is one of the largest employers of veterinarians in the Netherlands and operates not only nationally but also within the EU and beyond.
Your role as an Official Veterinarian
As an Official Veterinarian, you will work at slaughterhouses in your region. You will ensure the welfare of animals from their arrival until slaughter and intervene immediately in cases of misconduct.
Additionally, you will be responsible for:
- Inspecting slaughtered animals. You will assess whether they meet the requirements for food safety and public health. This means carefully checking for abnormalities, diseases, and other factors that could pose a risk.
- Monitoring hygiene and compliance with legal regulations within the slaughterhouse. This makes your work crucial for protecting public health and maintaining trust in the food chain.
- The work requires precision and commitment. You will ensure that animals are treated according to legal guidelines and that slaughter procedures are carried out meticulously.
You will often work independently (as part of a team) and make decisions, but you can always rely on colleagues for support. Additionally, you will collaborate with lawyers, inspectors, and policymakers, which makes the work diverse.
